Random Wire Antenna Test

After I spent a few hours winding a home brew 9:1 balun some months ago, I figured it was time to give it a whirl on a random wire antenna.

I only received at this stage but successfully at least. Range wasn’t great on 3.750MHz, worked perfectly for local Palmerston North and got Foxton and Danniverke faintly but could hear them enough to understand them.

After some scanning around the bands I stumbled across some VK’s chatting with a ZL in Otago.

Next step is to throw it up a bit higher and attempt a QSO on it.

The wire length turned out to be roughly 14m in length.
